Shin Mizuno(Fukushima,1983)
lives and works in Fukushima, Japan
Born in Tochigi Prefecture in 1983, he moved from place to place shortly after his birth due to his father’s work before settling in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, during his childhood. Around 2008, after being introduced to a camera by a friend, he began teaching himself photography. Subsequently, he created works inspired by literary texts, including those by James Joyce. Most of his projects are rooted in childhood memories and the ordinary, close-at-hand events of daily life. For him, taking photographs is like encoding markers into time and place. Instead of emphasizing a single photograph, he takes interest in how multiple images are arranged, sequenced, and repeated—the ways in which these structures provoke particular impressions, emotions and interpretive possibilities—and the autobiographical elements woven into photography.
